Prayer in Scripture

​

Prayer in it's simplest form is your heart connecting with the Father's heart. Prayer is a direct line to the Father. Paul, in 1 Thessalonians, tells us to "Pray without ceasing." Paul says in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 about prayer, "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." In Ephesians 6:16 Paul tells us, "...praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints." Again in Colossians 4:2, Paul goes on to say, "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving."

Isaiah 56:7 (KJV)

"Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people."

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Mark 1:35 (ESV)

"And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed."

Matthew 18:19-20 (ESV)

"Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Prayer is not something that we do, it is something we enter into. There should never be a point where we are not praying. Jesus himself "always lives to make intercession." Hebrews 7:25.

The Prayer Room

​

Our prayer format is based on the heavenly picture that we see in Revelation 4 and 5, which speaks of the harp and the bowl—worship and prayer. 

​

"The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb (Christ), each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of fragrant incense, which are the prayers of the saints (God’s people)." Revelation 5:8 AMP

"And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes all over and within [underneath their wings]; and day and night they never stop saying,

“Holy, holy, holy [is the] Lord God, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all], who was and who is and who is to come [the unchanging, eternal God].” Revelation 4:8 AMP

In Matthew 6:6, Jesus tells us, "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." The New Orleans Prayer Room will be a place where anyone, at anytime day or night can find the God of the Secret Place. As the prophet Amos says,
